This is a highly structured program that introduces children to the sounds that letters make individually and when used in combination with other letters (phonics). Specific markings are used to show the different sounds and/or uses of the letter. Words are written to show the syllabic pauses. It was introduced at the recommendation of teachers and parents who served on the Curriculum Action Team for the Charter, after researching and observing numerous Language Arts programs at both public and private schools.
Parents can check out Riggs materials from the Chesnut Media Center if they would like to learn more about the program.
